Milestone 1 for any savvy traveler is to get travel insurance (why is it that the word savvy always make me think of Captain Jack Sparrow and Pirates of the Caribbean - he did use that word a lot!). The word savvy comes from Portuguese (sabe, meaning "knows") and Latin (sapere, meaning "to be wise").
Travel Insurance is important for countless reasons, but well articulated by CHOICE. Medical emergencies, trip cancellations and delays, lost or stolen luggage, and travel interruptions, to name a few.
And we are savvy of course! 😁
February was spent doing some Google based research - getting comparisons and quotes. Always important to declare pre-existing conditions, so even though my hip replacement is a long way off and it doesn't cause me any day to day problems, this was declared in the applications. Mostly this resulted in a slightly increased cost for coverage.
There was a fair bit of variance in the quotes, by hundreds of dollars. Definitely pays to spend the time shopping around, although don't just look at price, but at the coverage and different limits.
In the end we settled on Insure & Go. Their policy (One-Trip Silver) had very good coverage for what we needed in France as a couple and out expected itinerary.
Cost was $580.09 for World excl US&Canada, with a $200 excess, to take us through to the end of the trip.
Apparently travel insurance gives you Peace of Mind. If so, this objective has been successful.
